Tenants, landlords lose with rent control measure

By Jerry and Terry Spodick, Santa Cruz

"Bad for tenants: First, it doesn’t lower rents or provide more or safer housing. Second, it encourages mom and pop single family property owners to sell their rental properties due to the unreasonable demands of this measure taking these properties out of the rental market."

"Bad for landlords: Rent control will make residential leases virtually unenforceable as well as deprive property owners of the right to determine who and how many people may rent their property. The cost to support this new rent control board will fall on property owners as well as taxpayers. This board will tell property owners how much they may charge for their property.

Tenants lose, property owners lose and neighborhoods lose. Bureaucracy wins. Vote no!"
